Governor Jan Brewer Extends Rulemaking Review and Moratorium Process for State Agencies

Governor Jan Brewer today issued an Executive Order continuing her regulatory review and moratorium for Arizona State agencies. The current rulemaking review and moratorium is set to expire June 30, 2012.

Upon taking office in January 2009, Governor Brewer's first official action was to implement a rulemaking moratorium that would prevent additional burdens on Arizona's private sector employers.

"My administration has diligently and consistently sought new ways to eliminate burdensome regulatory mandates, streamline existing rules and, ultimately, bolster Arizona's economy," said Governor Brewer. "With Arizona's current status as a top-10 state for business -- and the top state for innovators to start new businesses -- it is imperative that we keep regulations lean and predictable. Continuing this current rulemaking moratorium will be instrumental in increasing our State's job competitiveness and promoting lasting economic growth."

Additionally H.B. 2744 was signed into law by Governor Brewer during the 2012 Second Regular Session of the 50th Legislature. The law permits state agencies to conduct expedited rulemaking in order to streamline existing rules and increase the efficiency and service quality of State agencies -- all while protecting public health, safety and the environment. Governor Brewer encourages the general public and business community to bring forward ideas to State agencies on what rules need to be streamlined in order to best achieve these goals.

The Governor's Executive Order extends the review and moratorium until December 31, 2014.

The Governor's Office grants exceptions for changes to rules that create efficiencies, promote cost savings, benefit public health and safety and reduce burdens on business.
